All pupils benefit from Religious and Moral Education. A core subject undertaken by all pupils once a week from S1 through to S4.
Religious Education is taught by Mr Wilson, who is committed to developing in pupils a positive inclusive outlook towards differing faiths and beliefs. These are attributes that our young people will need in modern Scotland’s multi-cultural and multi-faith society.
Four major religions—Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam—are covered through S1 to S2, with third and fourth year pupils undertaking SQA units that focus on current social issues. These are currently Intermediate 1–2 ‘Justice in the World, Global Solidarity’ at S3, and Intermediate 1–2 ‘Making Moral Decisions’ in S4.
Pupils are encouraged to develop their own beliefs and attitudes and appreciate moral values such as honesty, fairness and concern for others.
Important cross-curricular skills—describing, interpreting and evaluating—are embedded within class activities in order to build on skills learnt throughout the school, boosting pupils’ confidence and self esteem.
